Ask anyone who runs a school office and they’ll tell you: a class is rarely the same thing in November that it was in January. A teacher goes on maternity leave and a colleague steps in. A venue changes when the new block opens. Someone tightens up the wording that prints at the bottom of the report. Each of these is a small, sensible change — and each one used to quietly erase what came before it.
This mattered more than it might sound. Especially when ADAM is the last to find out! Suddenly teachers are wrong on the report, and confusion abouts.
From this month, ADAM allows you to make back-dated changes to your classes to allow this flexibility.
A history tab on every class
Open any class profile and you’ll find a new History tab. It lays out the life of that class as a clear, visual timeline: who the teacher was and when that changed, when the venue or teaching time moved, when the report text was reworded. Every change is highlighted, so you can see the story of the class at a glance rather than squinting at a wall of text.
No more reconstructing the past from memory. The answer to “who taught this class in Term 1, and when did the hand-over happen?” is now one click away — for you, for the head, and for the conversation with a parent.
When you need to, you can put it right
Seeing the history is half of it. The other half is being able to fix it.
Sometimes a change gets recorded against the wrong date, or a hand-over is logged a week late, or an entry simply shouldn’t be there at all. Staff with the right permission can now correct a past entry, give a change the date it actually happened, and remove a version that was entered by mistake — all from that same History tab.
Here’s the part we’re proudest of: ADAM looks after you while you do it. If a change would affect a report that has already been published and sent home, it stops and asks you to confirm before going any further. You can tidy up your records with confidence, knowing you can’t accidentally rewrite a report a family has already received.
Why we built it
Schools trust ADAM with the things that have to be right — marks, reports, who was responsible for whom. The history of a class is part of that record, and it deserved to be treated as carefully as everything else. Making it visible, and making it safely editable, means one less thing kept alive in someone’s head and one less awkward “let me get back to you.”
There’s more in June
Class history was the big one this month, but it had company. June also brought a smoother way to collect documents during online applications, new reports for spotting families who’ve never logged into the portal and pupils away on leave, the ability to attach psychometric reports to learning-support records, and Useful Links that you can now share with families and pupils as well as staff — plus stronger sign-in protection and a long list of smaller fixes.
You can read the full round-up in our June newsletter.
As always, we’d love to hear how these features land at your school. If something would help and you’re not sure where to find it, the ADAM support team is only an email away.
